We’ve tried them all. All of those brands of gluten-free breads. Or maybe we should call them “breads.” We’ve tried them and they made us feel sad. Hard, cakey, mealy, bland, crumbly. The different brands each have their own issues, but collectively, they were all a little hard to swallow.
It actually took a lot of convincing to get us to try a new one (fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me — right?). But the reviews sounded good and we really missed sandwiches. So we took the plunge. And it turns out Barely Bread is a lot more like bread than we could’ve dreamed.
There’s not a speck of wheat in Barely Bread. They’ve replaced the grain with a blend of almond, seed, and coconut flours. Egg whites give the loaves a little bit of airiness, similar to cloud bread but not quite that airy. In addition to a bunch of other good stuff, Barely Bread also contains some good omega-3 fatty acids from ground flax seeds. It’s soy- and yeast- and gluten-free; so it’s Paleo-friendly. It’s also free of artificial flavors, preservatives, emulsifiers, stabilizers and gums. And since it’s available in loaves, bagels, baguettes, and buns, we can enjoy Barely Bread’s good nutrition in good taste, in some of our favorite meals.
It feels so good to have been wrong about gluten-free, Paleo bread. Thank you, Barely Bread!
