Clean Made LA 2018 Speaker Sessions

Regenerative Agriculture and Our Planet | Clean Made LA 2018 Speaker Sessions.

Soil matters! It’s quite literally the foundation of our planet and changes the content of the air we breath, the food we eat and the water we drink. We were honored to have two leaders in Regenerative Agriculture– Chris Kerston (Savory Institute) and Don Smith (Kiss the Ground)  join us to discuss the important of soil health, how regenerative agriculture is changing the face of our planet, what to look out for, and how you can help.

ABOUT REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE:

The loss of the world’s fertile soil and biodiversity, along with the loss of indigenous seeds and knowledge, pose a mortal threat to our future survival. According to soil scientists, at current rates of soil destruction (i.e. decarbonization, erosion, desertification, chemical pollution), within 50 years we will not only suffer serious damage to public health due to a qualitatively degraded food supply characterized by diminished nutrition and loss of important trace minerals, but we will literally no longer have enough arable topsoil to feed ourselves. Without protecting and regenerating the soil on our 4 billion acres of cultivated farmland, 8 billion acres of pastureland, and 10 billion acres of forest land, it will be impossible to feed the world, keep global warming below 2 degrees Celsius, or halt the loss of biodiversity. Healing Through Food with Sweet Laurel | Clean Made LA 2018 Speaker Sessions

We’ve been big fans of Sweet Laurel since the very beginning, so it was only natural to include Laurel and Claire in our Clean Made LA Speaker Sessions. We hope you enjoy hearing from Laurel and Claire about their journey though food and healing both their bodies and minds through the beautiful food that inspired them to create Sweet Laurel.

We’re also excited to announce their debut cookbook, Sweet Laurel: Recipes for Whole Food, Grain-Free Desserts, our new favorite grain-free baking book geared toward those struggling with a food allergy or looking for a simpler way to satisfy their sweet tooth.

Since the beginning, Sweet Laurel has been about making sweet things simple and we love that each recipe in Sweet Laurel focuses on using just a few quality whole ingredients. The mountains of ingredients so often called for in grain-free baking aren’t needed for these recipes. Instead, you can stock your kitchen with almond flour, coconut oil, organic eggs, 100% maple syrup, and Himalayan pink sea salt and make practically any recipe in the book. The recipes are indulgent yet healthy and nutrient-dense, and as they talk about in the video, there’s no need for a “two-cake situation” at a party or celebration. Everyone will be happy with these incredible treats.

ABOUT SWEET LAUREL & THE AUTHORS:

Sweet Laurel is a story of friendship and passion, told not through words but through cake, since 2015. From the beginning, Sweet Laurel has been about making sweet things simple. They aim to take the drama and judgment out of the healthy living experience by providing their customers with beautiful, delicious, and satisfying desserts; their followers with easy recipes and tips; and their community with workshops and classes. They joke that they started a bakery backwards—social media and blog first with a store coming second (their first shop opens in LA, summer 2018!). Their unique approach of influencer entrepreneurship has created a loyal fan base.

LAUREL GALLUCCI has baked delicious treats since she could turn on the oven. After she was diagnosed with an aggressive autoimmune disorder and her doctor put her on a strict diet, she started creating recipes of her own. Excited by the encouragement of friends and family, she turned her test kitchen into Sweet Laurel bakery.

CLAIRE THOMAS is the co-founder, creative director, and photographer of Sweet Laurel. She is also the cook, writer, and photographer behind The Kitchy Kitchen.
